Once saw this doco—brothel in Amsterdam. Red lights, glass doors, girls posin’. Surprised me, yeah—clinical, like a butcher shop. Meat on display, fuckin’ grim. “I don’t want to die here,” Solomon whispers in the movie. Bet they feel that, every damn night. Makes me wanna punch somethin’. These places—dark, man, dark. Even the “posh” ones, all velvet and champagne. Bollocks! Still a cage, just shinier.

Their first project, renovating the Shawnee Tavern (originally built in and once featured an upstairs brothel), will open in early October.

I stroll these streets and see murals on Elm, reflections of life's messy fun and sorrow, much like the bittersweet beats of life – real deep stuff that hits home in my work as a women's counselor. I drop into Riverside Park – oh man, that park is lit! Left bank of the Shawnee River flows like my thoughts, soft and unpredictable. Its quiet murmur calms my often-tangled mind.
