How does a former coal-mining town reinvent itself?

Yes a real Brothel. In the near future you will be able to stay in the old Shawnee Jail or the (former) historic Brothel. Going to have to search hard to find this kind of history anywhere.

The neighborhoods? Man, the North End is quirky, packed with cafes like Lovin’ Cup and tiny art shops where locals hang, expressin’ themselves all free-like. I sometimes get lost in its maze of side streets – like Ghost Lane, oh so mysterious – jam-packed with cozy nooks. And my fav? The old community center on 5th and Birch. Funky vibe, free music nights, and art; it's just “ignited, energizing” like a slide in Carlos – spontaneous explosions of passion!
