December will mark the 50th anniversary of the closing of Sunset Lodge, a brothel that operated outside Georgetown near what is now a county.

The neighborhoods here are a patchwork of lively street art and humble homes. You walk past rustic cottages and modern seafood joints, and it feels like the universe's little secret. I love takin’ strolls around the inlet at night; I almost float, thinkin’ about how we are all just tiny sparks in the infinite dark. Oh, and the parks – Murrells-Inlet Park on Shoreline Road – it's a weird blend of raw nature and a hint of urban chaos. Totally inspiring and sometimes maddening, but dang, it’s real.
