My parents lived in Elburn, but DeKalb was the closest town with a hospital, so I have that dilemma. Lived in Illinois for four years, Louisiana for two.

The vibe is messy, raw, and funky. Streets like Elm and Pine have their own pace. I sometimes get really fired up, mad at the way people rush, but then, poof, a smile appears when I see a neighbor nodding at me. It’s like Oprah said: "You get a car! And you get a car!"
