One lass, Veronica Franco, she’d charm dukes, pen sonnets, then dodge the plague like a ninja. Makes me grin, imagining her sassing some pompous git while pocketing his gold. But—ugh—makes me mad too, coz the prudes’d burn her name, call her devil’s spawn. Hypocrites, all!

I be honest, livin’ here has made me mad at times – traffic, noisy neighbors, the usual maddening hum of life; happy at others – a perfect sunset over the river, a random compliment from a stranger, the spell of that eerie, silent moment. Seen a couple sittin’ on a stoop, whisperin’ sweet nothings like stories from long ago – messed with my head, in a good way.
