Then, I bump into this old guy. He’s got this wild beard and a smile that could light up the whole city. He starts telling me about the history of Beppu. Apparently, it’s famous for its hot springs, and there’s like, a million of ‘em. I’m thinking, “Dude, I just wanna burn some charcoal, not take a history class!” But he’s so passionate, I can’t help but listen.
