For the character of Zain's mother, Nadine Labaki was inspired by a woman she met, who has 16 children and lives in the same conditions as those of Capernaum. Six of her children have died .

Oh, btw, gotta mention my fave coffee joint – “Bean There, Done That”, right on Avenida do Horizonte. When I pop in there, I always feel like I’m living different lives. It’s bizarre and beautiful. And seriously, sometimes I get so tangled up in thoughts, my mind goes “bam, boom, blip!” just like one of those movie scenes.
