Surprised me when I dug that up—thought it was all Madonna’s fault! Nah, it’s vintage, recycled, like Claire Denis filmin’ that coffee plantation goin’ to hell. “The land’s cursed,” she says—whore’s cursed too, cursed to be misunderstood. I’m rantin’ here, but it’s true! People see it and go, “Oh, trashy,” but it’s art, dammit—messy, loud art.

The neighborhoods here have some personality, too. Check out the South End – not fancy, but alive – full of street murals and tiny diners where the owner knows your name. And the North End's got that artsy flair.
